The Wimbledon Chronicles Loan Box
A Primary School Loan Box around the subject of 100 Years of Wimbledon. The box included the following:
Map of Wimbledon
The Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Museum had a really old map of Wimbledon that they wanted to blow up to A0 size to be used in school as part of an interactive experience for students, where they would be asked to perform tasks such as plotting on the map where the Wimbledon Stadium should be built, etc. Unfortunately the map wasn’t very detailed, easy to understand or exciting for a primary school student.
The solution was to create a custom drawn map with illustrated key landmarks, enlarged in their exact locations. We also stripped back any detail that wasn’t necessary to the tasks and gave the map a vintage feel to make it look like it was from 100 years ago. The result is a beautifully illustrated map that’s engaging, visually pleasing and practical to the tasks.
Letters from the Mayor
Each activity in the box would be accompanied by a letter from the Mayor to guide the class. Taking inspiration from the Jolly Postman book, we made these letters extra large (A3 size to fit into an A4 envelope) so that students could easily see and appreciate them in the classroom. As an extra touch of detail, we also custom made 50mm wax seals stuck to the top flap of each envelope to add to the vintage feel of the project.
Character Journals
We designed an A5 activity booklet so that the students could take notes throughout the different exercises. The inside pages were filled with illustrations and a vintage feel to suit the rest of the look and feel and to make it more appealing to the students.
Teachers Notes
We also designed a 30 page digital and interactive Teachers Notes document to guide teachers through each exercise, give them questions and ideas, as well as a cheat sheet for some of the map exercises so that they have the right answers to any questions.
